O britânico Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck-Quick Step) venceu o Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, edição 2021 na Alemanha, a 156ª de sua carreira desportiva.
A corrida, de 188,5 quilômetros de percurso entre as cidades alemãs de Enschede e Munster, foi ganha pelo corredor da Deceuninck-Quick Step num grupo reduzido onde foi o mais rápido. Atrás ficou o francês Alexis Renard (Israel Start-Up Nation) e o dinamarquês Morten Hulgaard (Uno-X Pro Cycling), segundo e terceiro respetivamente.
Em uma prova propícia para os sprinters, o colombiano Álvaro José Hodeg (Deceuninck-Quick Step), vencedor da última edição (2019), terminou em oitavo.
O alemão André Greipel de 39 anos, fez a despedida com a última prova na sua carreira com 158 vitórias e com 1.348 dias de competição.
“Foi um dia difícil, com mau tempo e muito vento. Nós forçamos o ritmo e fizemos cortes no pelotão e aproveitamos isso a nosso favor. Queríamos que fosse uma corrida difícil e conseguimos. Nos quilômetros finais começamos a atacar e quatro de nós ficamos na frente. Eu tinha Josef comigo e fez um ótimo trabalho, assim como toda a equipa. Estou feliz por conseguir uma vitória tão tarde na temporada e adicioná-la à contagem de mais uma vitória para a equipa”, disse Mark Cavendish.
